Sharp Aquos Quattron TV Brings in Yellow – RGBY

The newly developed Quattron 4-Colour Technology System and X-Gen Panel Technology are Sharp's unique leading-edge technologies that dramatically improve colour expressiveness and picture quality to an unprecedented degree. The 4-colour system adds yellow reproduction to the conventional primary colours of red, green, and blue (RGB plus Y).
This markedly enhanced yellow reproduction provides an unprecedented wide range in gradations to deliver colours just as they are in nature. Compared with the conventional 3-primary colour panel’s 6.2 million dots, the more than 8 million dots of the Quattron 4-colour system deliver greater precision with unprecedented colour expression through the addition of yellow.

Unlike standard LCD screens, Sharp introduces an additional yellow pixel to the three primary colours; Red, Blue and Green. Sharp calls this technological advance Quattron and under testing, picture brightness is visibly enhanced with even objects like brass, gold and other tricky colours and subjects are reproduced more vividly due to the extended colour space. Quattron technology also helps to reduce power consumption allowing good levels of brightness to be achieved with less power. |

4 Colour Revolution Quattron Debut
For 50 years, television relied on the three primary colours of red, green, and blue to produce a varied colour palette. This limited system of three primary colours, however, cannot depict such shades as shining gold, vivid yellow, or clear blue.
Sharp's revolutionary Quattron 4-colour technology adds yellow to the original primary colours to deliver a picture with unprecedented beauty and contrast. Having progressed from black-and-white through three primary colours over half a century, with the system of four primary colours in Quattron, we are about to encounter an exciting new era in audio-visual entertainment.
4-Color Innovation
Conventional TVs have been making 3-color pictures for half a century. Sharp introduces the world’s first 4-color LCD TV, QuattronTM. QuattronTM delivers color never seen before on TV.
More vivid picture.
Adding Yellow pixel makes pictures more vivid, such as “Yellow flower”, “Gold metal”, or “Emerald green”.

More brightness with lower power.
An almost white LED makes white color with blue and yellow. So yellow is the best color to make pictures brighter with less power.

Finer and smoother.
QuattronTM makes fine and smooth pictures with an 8,294,400 dots.

4-Colour Technology System and X-Gen Panel Technology

The newly developed 4-colour system and X-Gen panel are Sharp’s unique leading-edge technologies that dramatically improve colour expressiveness and picture quality to an unprecedented degree. The 4-colour system adds yellow reproduction to the conventional primary colours of red, green, and blue (RGB plus Y). This markedly enhanced yellow reproduction provides an unprecedented wide range in gradations to deliver colours just as they are in nature. Compared with the conventional 3 primary colour panel’s 6.2 million dots, more than 8 million dots of the 4-colour system deliver greater precision with unprecedented colour expression through the addition of yellow.
Ultraviolet-induced Multi-domain Vertical Alignment (UV2A)*1 Technology in X-Gen Panels

Unprecedented deep black and brilliant white are produced using lightpolarization technology at the picometer level. (One picometer is one trillionth of a meter.) In addition, a high-precision picture with fast control of the liquid crystal molecules in fully uniform response is achieved by applying ultraviolet light to the light polarization film in the manufacturing process.
*1 Ultraviolet-induced multi-domain vertical alignment (UV2A) is a manufacturing method in which UV light is used for precision control of liquid crystal molecules to ensure uniform alignment in specific direction.
Scanning LED Backlight Technology

The new AQUOS TVs include scanning LED backlight technology for reduction of crosstalk*2 in 3D images. This new technology limits crosstalk by reducing the optical perception of afterimages using high-speed on/off light control and separate drive.
*2 Crosstalk occurs when the image for the left eye and image for the right eye overlap. The perception of depth in a 3D image is produced using separate images for the left eye and for the right eye.
Frame Rate Enhanced Driving (FRED) Technology:
3D Display High-Speed LC Drive Technology

Conventional 3D display uses two signal lines for high-speed LC panel drive. FRED technology, in contrast, enables high-speed response using only one signal line for high-speed LC drive. This reduces wiring and components in the LC panel and improves light utilization efficiency, providing a bright picture with low power consumption.
